Pension Payments and Arrival in Australia

William wrote to the Repat. Dept. from Dinard, France, on 26th May 1930, to advise them to send, on his return to Western Australia, retired pay vouchers to c/o Post office, Kalgoorlie.

On his way home, he went to see Major Vincent, his father, who was in Dinard, France.

William sailed from London on 6th June 1930 aboard the “Balranald” and on the ship passenger manifest his profession is described as an “Engineer”. His last address in the U.K. was stated as 66 Praed St., Paddington.

He arrived in Fremantle on 8th July 1930, as a third-class passenger, and gave his intended address in Australia as “Tower House”, Beaumont, Adelaide. William’s half-sister Marjorie Tweedie (nee Buzzard) was living at “Tower House” with her husband Malcolm Douglas Tweedie and family.

William’s pension, when he arrived in Australia, was reduced, from 8s per day to 7s 7d (7 shillings and 7 pence) per day. As from 1st April 1930 to 30th June 1930 it was further reduced to 7s 6d per day and from 1st July 1930 to 7s 5d per day. However, in addition to the 7s 5d per day, for each quarter of the year, he was also to receive £10 in the first month, £10 in the second month and £13 16s 9d in the third.
